Some suggestions to develop this competency are:
Do it yourself
- Consider one of your objectives and write a plan to achieve it
- Investigate different planning techniques and adopt one to suit you
- Review your lit of ‘Things to do’ and rank al the activities in terms of importance and urgency
Do it with someone else
- Ask a coach to critique your plans and working practises
- Find someone who works in a very organised way and invite them to help you organise your work environment
Do something else
- Agree a work swap placement with another manager with good planning skills to see the planning in his workplace, and look for help to plan better in your own
- Work shadow a good organiser doing a similar job to your own
- Use a Learning log to review how effectively you utilise your time
